- Calling all shitposters — crypto brands are hiring meme creators.
- Candidates should be young and very creative.
Creating memes is all in a day’s work for crypto degens — so why not get paid for it?
A “top crypto brand” is looking to hire a meme and content creator, says Sam Wellalage, a recruiter who specialises in the industry.
In a LinkedIn post, Wellalage asks applicants for examples of their memes and creative posts in return for more information on the role.
Wellalage asked DL News not to publish the name of the employer, as he didn’t want it overwhelmed with applications.
Still, we can confirm it’s a major blockchain project for the entertainment industry.
Wellalage told DL News that the role — which pays about €50,000 per year — would suit a young, very creative person.
Wellalage said the role is new for this company, but many blockchain, web3, and crypto companies already employ meme creators.
One of his clients, layer 1 smart contract platform Monad, uses memes effectively on its platforms, he said.
Monad’s X feed, which has 310,000 followers, is full of Pepe-like cartoon characters in the company’s signature purple, as well as newsy memes.
A recent one riffs on Turkish pistol champion Yusuf Dikec, whose nonchalant stance during the shooting competition at the Olympics inspired thousands of good-natured memes.

Wellalage said these companies, whose founders are themselves generally fairly young, want to target decentralised finance users.
These memes “speak directly to the young DeFi community,” Wellalage said.
“This is how they hype the company,” he said.
As these companies grow and their management starts bringing in older, more experienced people, they well understand the value of managing the brand’s image, Wellalage said.
Social media managers are a standard hire for any brand, of course, but Wellalage said meme creators are more specialised.
The job requires a nimble, creative thinker who can come up with endless ideas and work with designers and video editors to bring them to life.
“We’re prioritising creativity. It’ll probably be a very young person who can just say, ‘Oh yeah, let’s do this.’ That’s what we’re after,” he said.
